Lebanon the Third Biggest Consumer of Cigarettes WorldWide?

The Independent released a map showing the average number of cigarettes per person, per year in every country where Lebanon came out third, after China (11-12 cigarettes a day) and Belarus (10-11 cigarettes a day). The map is based on data from the World Health Organization, which shows that the average in Lebanon is 3,023 cigarettes per year, which means around 8-9 cigarettes per adult per day which is A LOT!

I tried looking for a WHO report on cigarette consumption per country but I could not find any. I did find other websites sharing a similar map with similar numbers and linking it to a 2014 World Cancer Report 2014 by WHO so that’s probably it (but it’s not available to download for free).

Whether it’s an outdated report or not, the numbers are alarming and my guess is that they didn’t include Arguile in the report.
